What is going on at BAVC?

Spring 2022 League

"Beginner" Divisions are for players playing in their 1st or 2nd season with us or learning the basics of volleyball.

"Plus" Divisions are for players who are in at least their 3rd season with us or have experience playing for school or competitive. It is highly recommended but not required that players playing in a PLUS division be able to consistently serve over the net (preferably over-hand serves) and have a solid understanding of the rules.

Intermediate - What is it?

Intermediate level players are a smaller group of players within the recreational league who have chosen to attend a try-out event and were selected to play on the intermediate level teams. These teams play under competitive rules and structure. They are divided by age (U11, U12, U13, ect..) as much as possible. Sometimes players may be moved up or down an age level due to number of players available, skill or experience.

Our goals with intermediate

  • Provide an exciting and fun competitive level of play for more experienced players.
  • Give competitive players an opportunity to continue to practice and play in the off season.
  • Give advanced players from the rec program a place to continue to grow, experience and learn more advanced play under competitive level coaches.
  • Give players and parents a competitive type experience to help them decide if they want to invest in that style of play.

The PROs

  • Experienced Competitive coaches
  • Playing with other players of equal skill level
  • Play with full competitive rules
  • Competitive style play (rotations, switching, designated positions, libero)

The CONs

  • Commitment is required! Players need to be able to attend the majority of practices and games so that effective rotations can be practiced and used. Consistently missing practices and/or games will cause a player to see less play time and possibly be moved over to a rec team.
  • Games are not guaranteed! Saturdays will vary between extra practices, scrimmages, and games. The focus will be on learning how to play in rotations and staying in system.
  • Equal play time is not guaranteed like in the recreational games
  • Standings are not kept. There are no 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place teams announced at the end of the season.
  • Parents/players do not get to choose what team they are on, or what night they practice on. Practices will be one of the same nights as the rec program. Some games may be played during the week in lieu of a Saturday.
  • During the Spring/Summer seasons conflicts may arise with the competitive schedules for the coaches. Some Saturdays may be canceled due to these conflicts, or alternatively other coaches may be filling in when available. Players may receive fewer total activities than rec players due to coach availability.

Misc. info

Once a player has been selected for intermediate, they do not need to try-out again. When registering for following seasons they should notate in the special request block if they want to continue with intermediate or switch to the recreational league.

Games (when played) are played vs other teams of the same age, or teams above or below by 1 age level.

Games are to 25 pts. Games consist of three sets to 25 if time allows, normally we play as long as possible in the time allowed. There is no 5 server limit.
